100th Anniversary of Reiki: Usui's Legacy Lives On

This year marks the 100th anniversary of Reiki, a healing practice that has benefited millions of people around the world including myself and those around me - people and animals! The story of how Reiki came to be is an interesting one, and one you learn in full when you complete Reiki 1. Mikao Usui, the founder of Reiki, spent 21 days meditating on Mount Kurama in order to find a way to help others heal themselves. His journey led him to discover Reiki and open his first Reiki Clinic and School in 1922.

It is perhaps the perfect time to reflect on the legacy of Usui and how his teachings have continued to touch so many lives and will continue to do so. Even after all these years, Reiki remains one of the most popular forms of energy healing.

Though I believe everyone can heal whether you are attuned to Reiki or not, I do believe Reiki forms a great way of setting your intention, it attunes you to that specific energy and the symbols help bring more focus. It is the perfect way to start your learning journey into healing. Having been introduced to Reiki you may find that's all you need and want to learn or, like me you may find ways of incorporating other modalities into the Reiki.

There are many different schools of Reiki and each has their own take on Usui's teachings. I am very keen to learn Seichem Reiki which takes in Ancient Egyptian energies that were introduced to Reiki by Patrick Zelger in the 90s. No matter the Reiki you receive or learn the core principles remain the same:

- The practitioner is a conduit for healing energy

- The client is always in control of the session

- Reiki is a holistic practice that supports physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual well-being

If you are interested in trying and/or learning Reiki, I encourage you to find a qualified practitioner in your area. It is truly an experience like no other! And who knows, maybe you will be the one to carry on Usui's legacy of healing others.

I offer Reiki healing and teach Reiki 1 and 2 in Tiverton, Devon, find out more on www.equispirthealing.co.uk

Finally with much gratitude to Mikao Usui and Reiki I finish with his words:

The secret art of inviting happiness

The miraculous medicine of all diseases

Just for today, do not anger

Do not worry and be filled with gratitude

Devote yourself to your work. Be kind to people.

Every morning and evening, join your hands in prayer.

Pray these words to your heart

and chant these words with your mouth

Usui Reiki Treatment for the improvement of body and mind

The founder

Usui Mikao
