A Chakra Meditation

There are seven chakras located along the spine, from the base to the crown. Each chakra is associated with a different energy centre and governs specific functions in the body.

When all of the chakras are in balance, we feel energetic, creative, and connected to our higher selves. However, when one or more chakras are out of balance, we may experience physical or emotional issues.

The Chakras

Chakra meditation is a way to bring the chakras back into balance. It involves focusing on each of the seven chakras in turn, and clearing any blockages or energising any areas that need attention.

To perform chakra meditation, find a comfortable place to sit or lie down. I sometimes place crystals I am drawn around, or on me before I begin.

Close your eyes and take a few deep breaths.

Base Chakra

Begin by focusing on the root chakra, at the base of the spine. Visualise a red light shining from this area. See the red light getting brighter and brighter until it fills your entire body.

Sacral Chakra

Stay focused on the root chakra for a few minutes, then move on to the sacral chakra. This chakra is located just below the navel. Visualise an orange light shining from this area. See the orange light getting brighter and brighter until it fills your entire body.

Solar Plexus Chakra

Stay focused on the sacral chakra for a few minutes, then move on to the solar plexus chakra. This chakra is located just above the navel. Visualise a yellow light shining from this area. See the yellow light getting brighter and brighter until it fills your entire body.

Heart Chakra

Stay focused on the solar plexus chakra for a few minutes, then move on to the heart chakra. This chakra is located in the centre of the chest. Visualise a green light shining from this area. See the green light getting brighter and brighter until it fills your entire body.

Throat Chakra

Stay focused on the heart chakra for a few minutes, then move on to the throat chakra. This chakra is located at the base of the throat. Visualise a blue light shining from this area. See the blue light getting brighter and brighter until it fills your entire body.

Third Eye Brow Chakra

Stay focused on the throat chakra for a few minutes, then move on to the third eye chakra. This chakra is located between the eyebrows. Visualise an indigo light shining from this area. See the indigo light getting brighter and brighter until it fills your entire body.

Crown Chakra

Stay focused on the third eye/brow chakra for a few minutes, then move on to the crown chakra. This chakra is located at the top of the head. Visualise a violet light shining from this area. See the violet light getting brighter and brighter until it fills your entire body.

When you have finished focusing on each chakra, sit or lie still for a few minutes and feel the energy circulating through your body. You may experience a sense of peace and calmness, or you may feel energised and inspired. Allow yourself to simply be in the moment and enjoy the experience.
