How Reiki & Meditation Support My Chronic Health Conditions

I don't hide the fact that I live with chronic health conditions, mainly because I like to share any tools I have found that help me with others, in the hope it may be something that's useful for them too. We are all different so what works for one may not be as beneficial for another, but they are often worth a try to find out.

I am always on the look out for ways to manage my symptoms and improve my quality of life. For me, the best I have found that supports me is practising reiki, meditation, and mindfulness.

All of these practices have helped me to manage my fibromyalgia and other chronic health conditions over the years. Reiki has been especially beneficial, providing me with relief from pain and tension, as well as promoting general relaxation. What is so wonderful about Reiki is that even giving it to others helps me, as I get into a meditative, relaxed state and the energy travels through me - so it's a win - win!

I find that when I am consistent with my Reiki practice, not only do my symptoms lessen, but I also find myself in a much better mood as my stress is less. This is likely due to the mindfulness aspect of Reiki - being fully present in the moment and focusing on the good.

Meditation has also been incredibly helpful for me. I have struggled with anxiety and depression at times due to my health, and meditation has been a key part in managing these conditions. It helps to focus my mind and calm my thoughts.

Mindfulness in particular has been a massively important part of my journey to better health, it’s where I started and is what led me on to discovering Reiki. Mindfulness means living in the present moment, and being aware of your thoughts, feelings, and surroundings. This is something that I have been working on for years, and it has definitely helped me to manage my health conditions, be accepting of them and cope better even when massive bombshells like cancer rear their head!

I think it's so important to find what works for you and to stick with it, but equally I understand it can be very hard to do with the complexities of living with chronic illness, and finances can also play a part as inevitably many options cost money - I know, I tried a lot of different strategies over the years! Thankfully anyone can meditate for free at home, and there are free programs like the AccEPT project in Devon available on self referral which is a great introduction to mindfulness.

The financial aspect is also one of the reasons the Reiki group I co-host is open to complete beginners. I want people to be able to access it and learn in an affordable way.
