Supporting Myself Through Covid with Crystals, Oils and Reiki

Supporting Myself Through Covid with Crystals, Oils and Reiki

You may know from my social media posts that I tested positive for Covid this week. I've done well to avoid it this far, but it was inevitable with a young child at school, she was bound to bring it home one day.

I am considered vulnerable as I do not have a spleen which means I have a severely weakened immune system. My body also responds quite badly to viruses in general which means I have a longer recovery time than most, with fatigue being my main battle. Last year I also had severe pneumonia which has left me with pain in my left lung, and possibly a weakness there. I have therefore not been looking forward to the day Covid finally reached my doorstep, though I am grateful it is now when I am in the best place I can be, out the other side of cancer treatment and with the doctors understanding a bit more about what they are dealing with, so treatments are better. If I had to get it, now was probably the best time.

I thought I would share what I have chosen to support me through Covid, it may help others who are looking for other ways to support their health and well-being during these Covid times, which sadly can result in much upheaval and fear, but also well-being in general.

Crystals and Reiki are two methods that have shown to be effective in supporting the body during times of stress and illness and are of course two of my go to choices. Additionally, I like to work with essential oils and some Vagus Nerve exercises to help keep my breathing good and lungs as open as I can.

Crystals, Carnelian, Black Tourmaline. Clear Quartz, Mangano Calcite, Rhodonite. Garnet, Selenite

Crystals

I chose these crystals based on what I was drawn to, not researching in a book. I think this is the best way to choose crystals to work with; your mind, body and spirit know what they need, even if you don't know why you've chosen what you have, trust!

Carnelian was the first crystal that called out to me. I had quite a sore tummy and worked with this on my sacral area. It felt like it would be generally supportive throughout the process. It is a great crystal to use for general recovery as it supports well-being, releasing stress. It helps to ease aches and pains and can help to reduce inflammation. I also like using it for its ability to increase motivation, drive and energy levels which are often low during periods of illness.

Selenite was the second crystal I was drawn to. I felt this would be a really good cleanser, but in a very gentle way. Selenite is associated with the crown chakra and so can be used to help clear energy blockages.

Clear Quartz is known as the 'master healer' and so is a great all rounder. It can be used to amplify the healing properties of other crystals and is also good for boosting the immune system. I am keeping this one close by as a general support.

Black tourmaline is great for protection against negative energy and so I felt this would be a good one to keep close by and to help keep me grounded.

Rhodonite is a good one for emotional support as it helps to soothe anxiety and worry. It can also help with general recovery from illness.

Garnet is a stone I recently discovered and am connecting more with it, I felt it should be part of the crystals I am working with. It helps to boost the immune system and can also help with general fatigue.

Mangano Calcite is always one of my go tos, it is a beautiful soft pink colour and feels like a hug. A balance of emotional and physical support is vitally important when going through something like Covid and so I felt this crystal would help to provide that. Mangano Calcite is known as the 'stone of emotional healing' and can also help with anxiety, worry and stress.

I am keeping these crystals around me and then working with specific ones as and when I feel drawn. I have used them in the bath, meditated with them, and keep them by my bed at night.

Reiki

Reiki works to restore balance and so support the body's natural ability to heal itself. I have been working on my self-healing whilst connecting in with the Reiki energy, this has been through hands on and meditation.

Essential Oils

Essential Oils

I love essential oils and they were a massive support during my cancer recovery. For Covid the first thing I did was put Patchouli, Eucalyptus and Rosemary in my diffuser as they have great anti-viral properties. The other oils I have chosen are Rose for its gentle emotional support properties, and black pepper for its pain relieving effect - this Covid has made me very achy! I added these oils to my bath with epsom salts and to a carrier oil to massage into my skin.

Make sure you know what you are doing when using essential oils, be aware of pets and children in the area and what dilution you need. Seek qualified advice if unsure.

Meditation and Vagus Nerve Exercises

I have been meditating for many years but always step it up when going through an illness. Meditation is a great way to connect in with yourself, to ground yourself and to relax, helping relieve stress. Sometimes I do a mindfulness meditation, other times it is more of a visualization. I love slow mindful meditative walks in nature and it's nice to get into the garden.

I also recently learned a few exercises to help the Vagus Nerve , this is the longest cranial nerve and runs from the brainstem down through the body. It's known as the 'wandering nerve' as it affects so many different systems including digestion, heart rate, immunity and stress levels. I am using what I have learned to support me through this.

Diet

Finally, diet, this is something I am always mindful of but again especially so during times of illness. I make sure I am eating plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables, drinking lots of water and herbal teas. I have cut down on caffeine as this can deplete the immune system (as can alcohol but I don't drink that anyway).

Gut health is also very important for immunity so I am making sure I am eating plenty of fermented foods, I do love a good kimchi!

Covid is challenging, but by using Crystals, Reiki, Meditation and essential oils amongst other things I feel much more supported and hopefully will be rebooking my clients back in in no time…!!
